2001 TOUR PROGRAMME - ANDY DIAGRAM

Andy Diagram blew trumpet with James for three and a half years before leaving in 1992 to form Spaceheads - "a trumpet and drums band," he says, "you don't get too many of them these days". Although Spaceheads and his other project, David Thomas And The Two Pale Boys, are still going strong, he is rejoining his former band for five out of the seven dates on this tour.

"We left on good terms and everything," he says. "Apart from everything else I think it'll just be bloody good fun to get on stage with them again. And it's not every day you get the chance to play to such massive crowds is it?" Andy's time in James coincided with the explosion of all things Mancunian into the national consciousness. Ask him his favourite memory of the band and it naturally fits in with that sudden leap from "best kept secret in Manchester" to serious players.

"The first tour we did after I joined," he says, "God, it was just incredible. It was 89/90 and we were doing the universities and the whole thing was such a good vibe. "I'm looking forward to reliving some of that I suppose," he laughs, "that whole celebratory atmosphere. That tour was just an amazing moment. It was amazing not just for me, but for everyone in the band, around the band, and in the audience. Sometimes I catch myself now wondering, God , did I really do all that?"
