BLACK HOLE FANZINE REVIEW

For a first issue of a fanzine, this is an extremely good attempt. It has all the things you would expect - the latest news on the band's activities, gig reviews, a quiz, a review of the official website, stories of meeting the band and a featurette on the new album.

But what really stand out are the more unusual articles.  There's a section on tips on how to survive the average James concert (although "average" is probably not the best word to describe a James concert) that is, intentionally or not, absolutely hilarious. There's handy hints for girls to save their boobs, an insight on how to go to the toilet and some sound advice on alcohol consumption, which anyone who was near the front at Shepherds Bush last May will smile knowingly at.

There are some interesting insights into how the editors got into James. They're brave enough to admit listening the Backstreet Boys and Kenny Rogers.

There's a lullaby based around the story of James which will be continued in future issues which again raises more than a smile.

A Mike chocolate cake recipe (????) is included - don't ask me why!

There is also a story told by one of the editors that's inspired by the Booth and the Bad Angel. It's an interesting story and would appear to be a very personal one.

So the verdict, very good, much better that I had expected. Support them and contribute to the next issue.  There's a lot of energy in the fanzine that should be encouraged. It looks like the old master Change of Scenery might have some serious competition.
