TIM BOOTH : BRIGHTON ARTS CENTRE 26.9.03
review (sort of) from Aerial Stride
ok, I am now 100% sure the coincidences stack up on this one so bear with me.
The Lovegods were supported by another band.
The singer had a very distinctive and powerful voice, which was instantly familiar.
During the set this band played two James covers, introduced thus :-
"Someone came up after the last gig and said, 'That was awful NEVER defile James by covering one of their songs again.'"
"This guy we came up up to us and told us we had no right to cover so many James songs."
- The guy finished by thanking the audience, "My name is Tim."
- The lead singer of the now two year disbanded James is called Tim Booth
- According to the website, Tim Booth lives in Brighton.
- I've never heard such beautiful covers of James songs, delivered acoustically and so pitch perfect beautifully.
- The non-James songs were awesome too.
Mine only doubts were when I went up to talk to him afterwards.
"Hi, those were amazing James covers. And they fitted in so well with your set. It's almost as if they belonged"
He didn't even smile.
I've just used Google Images to confirm he even looks like the lead singer of James.
I wonder if everyone else would have been more receptive if they'd known they were seeing a James acoustic set.
