Inspiral Carpets were a five-piece band from Manchester, formed in 1987 and split in 1995.

Their most well-known line up of Tom Hingley (vocals), Clint Boon (organ, backing vocals), Graham Lambert (guitar), Martyn Walsh (bass) and Craig Gill (drums) came together in early 1989 and released four albums plus a Greatest Hits album on Mute Records. They had 15 Top 75 singles, Dragging Me Down being the most successful peaking at number 12.

Since the band split, Tom Hingley fronted a band called The Lovers and has recently released a solo album Keep Britain Untidy. Guitarist Clint Boon fronts the mighty Clint Boon Experience which has released two albums The Compact Guide To Pop Music And Space Travel and Life In Transition. Craig Gill runs a record shop in Manchester's Afflecks Palace.
