JAMES : PTMY REVIEW - IRISH TIMES
James have been active for almost 20 years now, which makes them the mother of all dadrockers. This is the follow-up to their acclaimed Millionaires album and - amazingly - they still haven't sunk into self-parody. OK, there is the odd pseudo-U2 anthem (Falling Down) and simple minded ballad (The Shining), but overall this is a solid, sincere effort by a band bent on growing as it grows old. Eno is back at the production controls, and you can hear his oblique influence on Space, English Beefcake and Gaudi. Singer Tim Booth however is in the driving seat on songs such as Fine, Senorita and new single, Getting Away With It (All Messed Up), while the rest of the band run like a finely tuned automobile. In the fashion parade of the 21st century rock, James may be old hat but they wear it well. - Kevin Courtney.
