TIM BOOTH STATEMENT ON JAMES OFFICIAL MESSAGEBOARD 14/5/03

Dear Folks, 

Just a short postcard to let you know I'm not dead. It always feels weird when there are long gaps when we disappear off the radar of popular culture. I always wonder will people be there to listen when I feel I've got something more to offer, something more to say. Or will they feel like a jilted lover and turn their back, with a "Why didn't you call you bastard?" These periods of disappearing from view were what enabled us in James to last so long. To return to real life, the day-to-day condition, that replenishes me as a artist (yes I think I'll dare to use that word).

So what's been going on for me? Musically I've written some great songs with my friend KK and I'm writing some more with one Mr. Lee Baker who is also producing the songs I've written with KK. The music is going off in diverse "groovy" directions and I'm loving every minute of it and looking forward to putting a band together to perform again. Please have faith and patience. October would be nice but these things have a time line all of their own and I usually, impatiently snatch dates randomly out of the air.

My film script got me a top agent and has now been optioned by two producers. I'm on my tenth draft and we have 45% of the money. However the film world seems even more chaotic than the music business so until the first day of shooting, assume that I've been having a great time learning script writing skills and that may be as far as it goes.

These have been the dual focus of my creative attention. I've also been teaching some workshops in creativity but these over stretched me so I've cut back. The website will be ready when I'm ready and clear in what I want to say. I'm also wrapped up in the same emotional/mental/cosmic disturbances of home and planetary life that we all endure. I just hope it leads to good art.
